Mike Biewer, residing in the wonderfully obnoxious weather setting of Fargo, North Dakota, was sitting in a bar one night trying to determine what to drink off of the beer list. For the longest time Mike had been drinking different types of beer in a quest to collect a library of different bottles to showcase in his home. However, this night was different, this night would open up a whole new world to Mike. This was the night Mike tried his first Stout style beer.
The taste was so immaculate and complex, yet smooth and sweet. It simply amazed Mike and deep within, his German heritage began to awaken. The following days Mike became obsessed with knowing why…why did this beer seemingly look so icky, taste so delicious. Article after article was consumed by Mike and his knowledge began to swell but it wasn’t until he came across the idea of home brewing that he felt a true calling standing up and yelling at him. Brewing commenced…
Mike has to many friends that drink one kind of beer every single day and homebrewing gives him the opportunity to share different styles with them. Mike started his serious beer tasting and homebrewing passion in late 2009 and hopes to bring all of the passion, flavor, technique, and best of all, alcohol, to anyone who will listen.
Mike’s Brew Review was born and within these walls, you’ll find homebrewing basics, tips, recipe reviews, how to’s, reviews of brews, and a lot of other beer life experiences. It is Mike’s goal to help people new to homebrewing be successful and possibly convert a few craft beer drinkers into homebrewers so they can enjoy the hobby as much as he does. Along with that, Mike has decided to chronicle his journey through the Old Chicago World Beer Tour as he learns more about flavor, aroma, color, mouth feel, and everything else about beer.
Mike is not an expert beer taster or brewmaster. He is just on a quest to learn more about homebrewing and beer while helping others find their passion for brewing. Mike’s ultimate dream is to own an estate where he grows all of his own ingredients to make beer in his craft brewery / restaurant.
So with that being said let’s make some brew and get to drinkin’!
